Medical Disclaimer
Last updated: February 2026
This Medical Disclaimer applies to all content, analyses, results, reports, and information provided by Skinscanner LLC through its website, applications, and services (the "Service").
1. Purpose of the Application
Our platform helps users document, observe, and better understand skin abnormalities – including through analysis of images taken with a smartphone camera. The outputs serve for information/orientation and skin monitoring.
2. No Diagnosis, No Substitute for Medical Treatment
Our platform does not provide medical diagnosis and does not replace medical advice, examination, or treatment. The results must not be used as the sole basis for medical decisions.
- •See also the usage notes of the underlying technology.
If you have acute symptoms (e.g., severe pain, bleeding, rapid changes, fever, severely inflamed/infected skin), please contact medical professionals or emergency services immediately.
3. Partnership & AI Technology Used
We work with Skinive and use their AI analysis systems (including API/cloud integration) for image evaluation within our product.
4. CE Notice (Properly Classified)
The underlying Skinive technology is described in the documentation as Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) and classified as Class I under EU-MDR (EU) 2017/745 (CE context per documentation).
Important: This classification refers to the Skinive software/documentation. It does not automatically mean that every application built on it is identically regulated in every country/use case.
5. "Millions of Images" – What This Means
Our AI analysis is based on a large dermatological reference and knowledge system. In publicly described scientific evaluation/development, model versions are described with training sizes in the range of ~64,000 and ~115,000 images (for certain versions); additional methodological reports/updates exist.
When we communicate "millions of images/cases," we mean the total scope of the underlying clinical case/reference database and knowledge base, described in documentation as a database of clinical cases/reference cases (not necessarily that every image was used in every model training).
6. Scientific Validation & Evidence
Publicly available materials exist for validation/accuracy and peer-reviewed evidence of the underlying technology:
- •Peer-reviewed publication (PubMed): PMID 36386072
- •Methodology/Accuracy Report (2020)
- •Accuracy Report/Methodology (2021) incl. download report reference
- •Accuracy/Methodology (2022) incl. description of separate validation datasets and specialist review (dermatologist/oncologist)
Note: Results depend on image quality and context; errors (false positives/false negatives) are possible.
7. Photo Quality & AI Limitations (Please Note)
The accuracy of the analysis is strongly influenced by:
- •Lighting (bright, even, no harsh shadows)
- •Focus/sharpness (no blur)
- •Distance/angle (keep as consistent as possible)
- •Camera quality, skin type, body location, makeup/creams, hair/reflections
The AI can misjudge (false positive/false negative). Use results as guidance, not as diagnosis.
8. Data Privacy (GDPR) & Security
When using Skinive technology, data is processed according to the data protection principles described there; the documentation mentions GDPR reference and user rights (e.g., access/deletion/export). Encryption measures are described for transmission and storage (including TLS for transmission and encrypted storage).
Additional details about processing in our product (roles/responsibilities, retention periods, order processing) can be found in our Privacy Policy.
9. Contact
